Course Description:

Academics

The SSI Training Materials and Online Training program are designed so that you can learn the academics at your own pace when it is convenient for you. You can complete the academics online when you sign up for SSI’s Online Training program, and then attend review sessions at our SSI Dive Center.

Our Standard Program academic review sessions are on Tuesday and Thursday night 6:30-9:30, and Saturday morning 9:00-12:00.  Attendance of all three is required.  See our flyer for alternative choices.

Skills

Pool

For your pool skills training, your instructor will fit you to your scuba equipment so you will become comfortable in your “second skin”.

Out Standard Program pool skills sessions are Saturday & Sunday afternoon 1:00-6:00. See our flyer for alternative choices.

Open Water

After your training is complete, you will be certified as a referal diver.  You will need to complete at least four open water check-out dives to become a certified open water diver.  Please see our Learn to Dive:  Open Water Diver check-out dives page for price and schedule.

Requirements:

Prerequisites:

Must be a minimum of 15 years old.

(see Jr Open water diver for ages 10-14)

  • Completed and signed waiver
  • Medical Statement - SSI
  • Swim Skills
    • Float or tread in water too deep to stand for 10 minutes
    • Swim 200 meters without any swim or buoyancy aides (no time limit)

Equipment Requirements:

The Open Water Diver program includes all required scuba equipment.  You will need to acquire the following equipment prior to the first pool session:

  • Mask
  • Snorkel
  • Fins
  • Boots (optional but recommendedd)

Please check with the dive center for recommendations. We also offer professional fittings for our students.

  • Waiver Release
  • Medical Statement - SSI*

*If there are any YES answers on the medical survey, the participant is required to have a licensed medical practitioner sign the provided medical statement after reviewing the guidelines for recreational scuba, prior to any in water activity.
